Software Comparison Between Photoshop and Lightroom

Taking photos has never been as popular as it is now because of modern technology. Before, only a select few could take photos due to the expensive equipment. Nowadays, everyone can take photos with their smart phones and cameras. The more photos people take, the more interested they are to make their pictures look as creative and flawless as possible. That is where editing software comes in.

Since the invention of smart phones, there have been many apps that people can use to edit their photos. But there are software that people prefer more if they want to do advanced editing. The first thing that people would think of when they hear editing software would be Adobe Photoshop. But with the introduction of Adobe Lightroom, people are undecided on which they would want to use to get the best possible result.

What is the main difference between Photoshop and Lightroom? Is one better than the other? Which one of the two is more user-friendly and which is for professionals? To answer these questions, here is a software comparison between Photoshop and Lightroom.

Photoshop

The more recognized and more popular among the two, Photoshop is a pixel-based editing software that is excellent at retouching, compositing, adjusting, and content filling. It is widely used because of its user-friendly interface that allows people to edit their photos in a more technical way, but at the same time, not too complex.

Although it is relatively easy to use, it does have a few setbacks and disadvantages. One of the main issues that people who use Photoshop experiences is the danger of losing the original file. With Photoshop, some users have complained about accidentally saving the new edited file over the original. Users would have to be extra careful in saving what they edit. Another weakness that this software has is its expensive price tag. If money isn’t really a problem, then this program is worth the purchase.

Lightroom

On the other hand, Lightroom is an editing software program that has more control over the entire editing process. Unlike Photoshop, Lightroom is able to process raw files and users would not have to go through Adobe Camera Raw to process them. It is great for importing, processing, organizing, and exporting files. It is also easy to learn and more affordable than the former.

However, the biggest setback that this software program has is its limited capacity in editing. Lightroom is only able to edit photos, which can be problematic for users who edit other files as well. Furthermore, it is also not a great program for retouching because of its lack of advanced control and speed.

When it comes to finding out the main difference between Photoshop and Lightroom, it would be difficult to say because they both have their fair share of strengths and weaknesses. It all depends on what the user would want to do with their files and images. Both programs are equipped with features that will definitely help create the best possible result.
